The Black Photojournalism exhibition at the Amon Carter Museum of American Art is a powerful and visually compelling showcase celebrating the voices, vision, and legacy of Black photojournalists across America from 1945 through the mid-1980s. Featuring more than 250 photographs by over 60 photographers, the exhibition captures defining historical moments alongside intimate glimpses of everyday life, offering a deeper and more authentic portrayal of Black experiences, culture, resilience, and community.
Through striking imagery and storytelling, visitors are invited to explore how Black photographers documented history from perspectives often overlooked by mainstream media. The exhibition also honors the impact of influential Black-owned publications such as Ebony, Chicago Defender, Pittsburgh Courier, and Atlanta Daily World, whose visual journalism helped shape narratives, preserve truth, and amplify voices within the community.
For artists, creatives, and storytellers, Black Photojournalism serves as both an inspiring artistic experience and a meaningful reflection on the power of visual storytelling, cultural preservation, and creative expression.
