Tonny H. Russell

Visual Artist & Poet

Disciplines

Tonny H. Russell, a Fort Worth native raised in the historic Lake Como neighborhood, is a multifaceted artist whose talents span painting, poetry, and storytelling. The sixth of ten children born to Roy and Lula Russell, Tonny has been creating since childhood—painting since 1956 and writing poetry and short stories faithfully since 1971.

A surrealist painter, Tonny works primarily in acrylic and oil on canvas and metal. His creative journey has earned him notable recognition, including the Golden Poet Award in 1998 from The World of Poetry for his poem A Legacy of Hope. He is currently working on publishing a collection of his poetry and short stories.

Tonny is also the Pastor of Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church and a proud retiree of Birdville ISD, where he served for 19 years. As a dedicated member of the Stepping Into Destiny Artists Guild, he continues to share his creative gifts with the Fort Worth arts community.
